Poetry Lesson

In writing class we learned about poetry. For example: prose, meter, free verse, diamante, cinquain, etc. I already know a little bit about poetry, so I’m interested in learning more.  We combined two writing classes together, because the teachers said is fun to teach together. We watched a Brain Pop video and practiced writing different kinds of poems. We learned new vocabulary too!

After all, I think this was a great lesson. Although we took a vocabulary quiz, we had fun making our own poems. I’m looking forward to learning more lessons!

Here is one of my poem that I wrote:

         Diamante Poem- Opposite

Black
Evil, Dangerous
Killing, blooding, dying
Chocolate, Pencil, Panda, Teeth
Playing, Laughing, Dreaming
Bright, Fresh
White

2012 Amazing çlåss HikE :)

Do you like hiking? I like it because it is good exercise. This year, we went hiking at Matilija Canyon. At first we went to Mr. Lang’s house. Mr. Lang is the 6th grade teacher. His house was awesome, and some of his little house was made of wood. Even though was cold up there, we got to have some tangerines. After that, we went hiking and creek crossing.

I was with Miss. A, the horseback riding teacher at OVS. She turned on the radio, and the music was okay. Finally we went hiking on Matilija Canyon. The narrow trail was about 5-6 miles, and It was not hard for me because I was busy talking. I got bug bites because I was wearing shorts. We had lunch at the creek and, it was exciting to cross the creek!

We started to hike more after lunch, and we saw banana slug! It looks just like a tiny banana moving slowly on the ground. When we were done hiking, we went and play in the river. Mr. Lang started to throw moss at a person, and that’s how we started the “moss fight!” I throw one on Jacob’s head, he looked around. Jacob is a boy from sixth grade. It was so funny how all the sixth graders fight against Mr. Lang! haha :)

We had fun time at Matilija Canyon. Although I got bug bites, but I had a fantastic time hanging out with my friends! When we got back from hiking, the teachers let us have soda. I felt exhausted from the class hike, but I will never forget the hiking trip on Matilija Canyon.

My Holiday

During the holiday break, I went shopping with my family.  I ate a lot of delicious Taiwanese food. I missed it so much. I also watched fireworks at the end of the year, but it was really crowded.

When I get back from the airport, my mom prepared Taiwanese food for me to eat, and it was amazing. I’ve always wanted to eat it. I went to my aunt’s store. She sells drink and desserts. I think I gained some weight.

I shopped with my family, and the line for Japanese food was huge. We waited for about 40 minutes, but it supposed to be 10 minutes. My dad was mad, so he talked to the line person. She let us go in front of the line. There was three food main themes. One of them is Japanese, Hollywood, and I forgot the other one… It was a good exorcise.

There will always be fireworks at the end of the year in Taiwan. We count from 10 to 0, and the fireworks start to show. This year, I went to 101 (101 is a really tall building in Taipei) It was wonderful, and I video taped it. There was bunch of people, so we could not find a good place to watch.

I had fun spanning time with my friends and family. I went back to my old school, and it was really fun. I wish we can just have one more week. This holiday break reminds me the life in Taiwan, and I enjoyed it!

Thanks Everyone~!

Friends and family are the most amazing people in the whole universe! They’re both important. I want to thank friends, mother, and grandmother. The reason is I think they helped me a lot. For example, my Grandmother taught me how to use chopsticks, speak in a correct way, and buy the things I want.

If you need a person to ride roller coaster with, your friend will usually say yes. (99% percent)  A friend is all about laugh, being crazy, fighting, and chatting. They tell jokes to make you laugh. They tickle you and make you crazy. They protect you if a person tickles you. They fight because weird reasons. I also learn to be patient. This is what friends will do mostly for me. Thank you for giving your time to spend with me.

The second person I want to thank about is my mother. Mothers will help you with everything, but they don’t receive rewards. My mom is a really healthy person. She allows me to have few snacks. One night, I had a super bad fever. My mom woke up and gave me medicine. Of course, she was tired. She still took care of me anyway.

This person is the one who spends her free time to take me to piano lessons, violin lessons, English classes... Is my Grandmother! My grandmother is sixty-eight-years-old. She taught me how to use chopsticks and manners. I thank her so much for these years. I hope I can vista her as soon as I get back to Taiwan!

Lastly, I’ve learned that I need to take care of myself. I think what they want me learn is respect. They’re the important people to me, I’m going to keep them forever!

6th Grade Fall Camping Trip

This was my third camping trip with OVS. All the sixth graders went to Montana de Oro, one of the California State Parks in the San Luis Obispo coast. I learned a lot of important things. Always be prepared for rain, organize equipment, and pay attention when the teacher is talking.
The first night was fun and awful. It was really windy. We had to move to another tent, because our tent got broken. We needed to go to the laundry place for drying clothing, shoes, and all the wet equipment. Sharon and I got to sleep in the van, because the other tents are full.

Jenny, Sharon, and I built a strong Mega-mid. Our backpacks were the one of the cleanest however; I left some of my stuff out of my backpack. My bowl and Spork got so muddy. I also lost my Spork, because I was not organized.

We went hiking on the third day. We hiked the tallest mountain at Montana de Oro. We could see everything on the top the mountain. I painted a part of my face yellow. On top of the mountain, there was a huge bee flying around us. It didn’t sting us. Finally, we went down the mountain. There was tons of poison oak on the trail, and it rained a little bit. I thought poison oak got on my rain jacket, but it didn’t.

I learned to put all my camping equipment into a backpack. The best part about the camping trip were the burritos! During the camping trip everything tasted delicious! Mrs. Usher said: we ear burritos during the back packing trip too. I'm so excited; I can't wait until the next camping trip! The sixth grade camping trip was totally awesome!!!

Ellie Yu’s Embarrassing Moment!!!

First, I don’t want you to laugh out loud for now. I was about six years old. I was shopping with my mom at the mall. I told my mom I need to go to the bathroom so badly. She said of course. I’ll wait for you in front of the “girl’s bathroom”.

Soon, I ran to the” boy’s bathroom”. I had to go so badly so I didn't see the sign. I sat on the toilet for awhile. After about ten minutes. I checked if there any tissue, but there was no more tissue! I yelled at my mom. I wonder if she could hear me or not, but I guess she couldn't! I cannot really remember what did happen next, but I think this is my most embarrassing moment in my life.

My Amazing Grandmother

First of all, My grandmother is sixty-eight year old. She lives in Taiwan. When I was young, she taught me how to write words correctly and pretty. She also taught me how to use money to buy things. She taught me manners, how to ride a bike, and how to use chopsticks. I love her!

Secondly, my grandmother likes to sing and watch traditional Taiwanese drama. She loves pretty flowers. My dad always sent my grandmother a lot of interesting mails. She loves it! I miss her so much. I always call her when is free time.

In conclusion, my grandmother lives in my house with my family. She also lives with her mom. Her mom is my great-grandmother. She is about ninety year old. Her birthday is January first. My great-grandmother has ten kids! One of them is my grandmother.
